The Inspiration Behind Bosly’s Backyard

My dog couldn’t handle the dog park, so I decided to do something about it…

But first, who’s Bosly, my reactive dog?

I adopted Bosly in 2011 when she was just 4 months old from Anti-Cruelty here in Chicago. As a puppy, we loved spending time at the city’s dog parks, and it quickly became part of our routine. But when she turned 1.5 years old and grew out of the puppy stage, the dog park wasn’t a good fit. It became too stressful, and there was always dog park drama!

A safe space for Bosly to run freely didn’t exit.

Living in a one-bedroom Chicago apartment with no yard I kept asking myself, “Where can I take my 70 lb energetic dog to get the exercise and mental stimulation she needs, free from other dogs?” That's why, in 2020, Bosly's Backyard was created not just for Bosly, but for all the other reactive dogs who couldn't enjoy running freely in the city.

Who is Bosly’s Mom?

Hi! I’m Kim. After rescuing Bosly in 2011, I began volunteering with several local animal rescues and found a wonderful community of people just as crazy about dogs as I am. From 2015 to 2020, I volunteered with One Tail at a Time, serving on their Associate Board and eventually as Board President. It was there I realized that many dog parents faced the same challenges I did and it dawned on me: “Why are we putting our dogs in environments (like public dog parks) that set them up for failure, instead of setting them up for success?”

During my time with OTAT, my heart and passion for animal welfare grew immensely. After nearly 20 years in a corporate career focused on marketing and digital consulting, I realized where my true calling was—with the dogs. So, in 2022, I left the corporate world behind to pursue my full-time passion: making dogs happy!

There are so many dogs in the world like Bosly that need our help.

That’s why we always support and provide you the opportunity to Make an Impact on Chicago Dogs. We’ve partnered with many local rescues to ensure these organizations get the support needed to thrive and continue saving more lives.

To date, through our Rescue of the Month Program and our Market Fundraisers, we have given back over $30,000 to over 20 charities!

Watch all the happy dogs and parents having fun!

What our friends are saying

“My dog and I had a great time 1:1. It allowed us to play and run around, free of worry of any other dogs nearby since my dog is leash reactive. We enjoyed our experience and it was a good workout for both of us!”

“Rebel and her pawents LOVE Bosly's Backyard! It's the perfect fun (and safe!) space for Rebel to run around to her heart's content. She especially loves playing "find it" in the tennis ball-filled pool! Since Rebel is very dog-selective, bringing her on an adventure to Bosly's is the perfect way to provide her enrichment, exercise, and quality time with her humans :)”
